- Unfreezing - show that change is necessary for employees to motivate
- Change - workers learn and adapt to change with management support
- Refreeze - establish stability and make new methods the new norm

- Negotiated Total Package - Management & workers agree to a major change in business functions
- Negotiated Piecemeal Initiatives - management & workers agree on various changes as they occur
- Imposed Piecemeal Initiatives - managers plan and impose changes to solve certain problems (e.g develop quality circles)
- Imposed Total Package - senior management introduces a major change with no worker consultation (e,g when negotiations fail)
