Q

What is mitosis and can you describe what happens during this process?

A

mitosis is the process of cell division
during mitosis the chromosomes make copies of themselves
before the cell divides it makes copies of sub-cellular structures such as ribosomes and mitochondria
the set of chromosomes are pulled apart and the nucleus divides
the cytoplasm and cell membrane divides once to form 2 genetically identical daughters cells

Q

What happens to gametes during fertilisation?
