CELL-MEDIATED IMMUNE RESPONSE Flashcards
(6 cards)
1
Q
What is the cell-mediated immune response? (1)
A
brought about by the activity of T cells, T cells will bind to an antigen-presenting cell that has antigens from a pathogen on its surface. In doing so, an activated T helped cell is formed that releases cytokines. The release of cytokines stimulates the activated T cell to divide repeatedly to form a clone.
2
Q
what types of T cell form within these clones? (3)
A
- T killer cells
- T helper cells
- Memory cells
3
Q
what is the function of T killer cells? (1)
A
destroy body cells infected by viruses
4
Q
what is the function of T helper cells? (1)
A
release cytokines that stimulate production of B cells
5
Q
what is the function of memory cells? (1)
A
remain in the body and bring about the secondary response
