What are Yacht Certificates?
Yacht Certificates are issued by Flag or an awarding body (RO) once the vessel is compliant with international legislation.
Why is it important to be familiar with yacht certificates?
Being familiar with all the yacht certificates is important to easily locate and send the correct documents when requested.
Where should original yacht certificates be kept?
All original certificates should remain on board, typically held in the Captain’s office or bridge.
What should you do with copies of yacht certificates?
You should only hand out copies of the original certificates.
What should be done with relevant certificates?
Ensure you scan all relevant certificates onto the Purser server within the customs main folder for email attachment.
What is sufficient for a scanned copy of a certificate?
A scanned copy of the first page with the relevant information and expiry date is sufficient; the back page does not need to be scanned.
What should be done with out-of-date certificates?
Out-of-date certificates should be removed and replaced.
What is usually sufficient to hand out to authorities?
Photocopies of original certificates and documents are usually sufficient.
What may authorities request in some instances?
In some instances, authorities may request a notified copy.
What is required for a notified copy to be accepted?
The Captain’s signature and stamp on the copy will be accepted and confirm authenticity.
What should happen if the original Certificate of Registry is requested?
The Captain must authorize this and will require the Purser to draw up a receipt, which both the agent and Captain will sign.
What should be done with the receipt for the original Certificate of Registry?
A copy of the signed receipt should be retained for the records.
