The Catholic counter reformation
The Protestant Reformation combined with reformist tendencies within the Catholic Church itself, provoked a Catholic counter Reformation. Catholics clarified and reaffirmed their unique doctrines and practices. They also set about correcting the abuses that had stimulated the Protestant movement. They created the Jesuits, a brotherhood of priests committed to the renewal of the Catholic Church and spreading Catholicism abroad.
Protestant reformation
It started with Martin Luther’s 95 thesis. The Protestant Reformation shattered the unity of the Roman Catholic Christianity.
Taki onqoy
A religious revivalist movement in central Peru known as dancing sickness. Traveling dancers possessed by local gods predicted that in alliance of Andean deities would soon overcome the Christian God, inflicting the Europeans with the same diseases they brought from the Americas.

Jesuits in China.
Jesuits came from Europe to convert Chinese people to Christianity. Over time they began to downplay their mission to convert and instead emphasize their interest in exchanging ideas and learning from China’s ancient culture and Confucianism. They brought with them European science and knowledge.
Wahhabi islam
A movement which Took place in Arabia. This movement formed a new state which was in opposition to the Ottoman Empire due to differences in beliefs.
Koazheng
A new direction in Chinese elite culture. Known also as research based on evidence. The Chinese elite began to seek truth from facts. It was a genuinely scientific approach to knowledge
Mirabi
A bhaki poet. Hey high-caste woman from northern India who abandoned her upper class family and consensual Hindu practice. Upon her husband’s death she declines to burn yourself on his funeral Pyre. She also met frequently with Untouchables.
Sikhism
A religion which blended Islam and Hinduism. A new and distinctive religion in the Punjab region of northern India. This new religion ignored cast distinctions and ended the seclusion of woman, while proclaiming the brotherhood of all mankind.
Copernicus
One of the founders of the European scientific revolution. A Polish mathematician and astronomer who declared that the sun is the center of the universe.
Newton
An Englishman who formulated the modern laws of motion and mechanics. He discovered gravity and this was the grand unifying idea of early modern science.
European enlightenment
Sparked by the scientific revolution, it was the growing belief that our purpose is to acquire more knowledge?
Voltaire
A French writer that reflected the outlook of the scientific revolution as he commented sarcastically on religious intolerance. He was a deist, meaning he believed in a rather abstract and remote God
The idea of progress and condorcet
Concordet was a french philosopher who looked to end inequality between the sexes.
