Mexican Revolution
A revolution where workers and peasants thought to overthrow the dictatorship of Porfirio Dias. The revolt cost the lives of 1 million people which was roughly 10% of the population. Huge peasant armies under charismatic leaders like Pancho Villa and Zapata fought for that with their lives to end Diazs dictatorship. The revolution brought about the new constitution which provided redistribution of land, proclaimed universal male suffrage, stripped the Catholic Church of any role in public education, and announced unheard of rights for workers such as minimal wage and eight hour workdays.
Dependent development
This form of economic growth seen in Latin America which was largely financed by capital from abroad making these countries dependent on European and North American companies and money. It was a new form of colonialism through power exercised by foreign investors. Companies would pressure governments into maintaining conditions which were favorable to their businesses and the United States of America
Latin American export boom
Countries like Mexico, Peru and Argentina and two page of great stability. Latin America as a whole was becoming more closely integrated into the world economy. Technology like the steamship maids trade easier with Europe and North American countries. This industrialization led to a massive export of Latin American resources. There was also large-scale investment of European capital in Latin America with 10 billion spent.
Caudillos
Political Military strongman that achieved power as defenders of order and property. They are presents resulted in a changing of president of the country many times
The Russian Revolution
The revolution took place in 1905. A growing labor force and middle-class became more and more resentful of the states due to their poor living conditions. As a result Marxist socialism became an ideology that people began to support. Peasant uprising, student demonstrations, and revolts began to take place. These revolts put lemon, and the Bolsheviks in power and created the modern world’s first socialist society
The progressives
A socialist movement started by farmers who pushed for specific reforms, such as wage – and – hours legislation, better sanitation standards, antitrust laws, and greater governmental intervention in the economy.
The labor part
A major force in British Parliament. It was established in 1890s. It I’ve located a reformist program and a peaceful democratic transition to socialism, it practiced something called social democracy
Socialism in the United States
No major party emerged to represent interest of the working class. This is due to racial division amongst labor workers within Europe, cheap available land, and homeownership availability
Karl Marx
Born in Germany, he spent much of his life in England. He witnessed the brutal conditions of Britain’s Industrial Revolution. He found that industrial capitalism was an inherently unstable system downs to collapse and revolutionary upheaval that would give birth to a classless society, Thus ending forever the ancient conflict between with rich and poor. His work inspired later work and social movements of workers. He is known as the father of socialism and communism?
Ellen johnston
A Scottish woman living in the working class during Britain’s Industrial Revolution. She did not advocate for socialism rather she called on the master of the mail to behave in a benevolent fashion towards his employees and create within the factory a sense of community.
Lower middle-class.
People employed in the growing service sector as clerks, sales people, bank tellers, hotel staff, secretaries, telephone operators, police officers, etc. By the end of the 19th-century this lower middle class represented about 20% of Britain’s population and provided new employment opportunity for women as well as men.
Middle-class values
Politically they were liberals, favoring constitutional government, private property, free-trade, and social reform within limits. The growing middle-class values and outlooks were respected as men in the middle class were given the right to vote in 1832
The steam engine
A great technological breakthrough which helped propel Europe and Britain into becoming superpowers of the world. These coal – fired steam engines provided and in animate and almost limitless source of power beyond that of wind, water, or muscle and could be used to drive any number of machines as well as locomotives and oceangoing ships.
Indian cotton textile production
India had long been the world Center of cotton textile production. Making historians wonder why I’m Industrial Revolution did not take place within India rather than Europe
