CA: Spirochete bacteria
Tx: Antibiotics, removing plaque, remove necrotic tissue

S and sx: infectious asymptomatic, belching, loss of appetite, nausea, abdominal pain

Tx: Antibiotics and medication

S and sx: small blisters in mouth or on lips, painful ulcers, can recur

Tx: Antivirals, sunscreen

S and sx: painful swelling of one or both parotid glands, stiff neck meningitis, deafness

Tx: no effective treatment, MMR vaccine

S and sx: diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea and vomiting

P: acid tolerance, loss of electrolytes
Tx: oral re-hydration therapy, antibiotics prolong infection
Gastroenteritis- stomach flu
S and sx: severe watery diarhea, dehydration can lead to organ failure and death
CA: V. cholerae
Tx: Vaccine
Cholera
S and sx: dysentery- blood with diarrhea
CA: E. coli
E: ground beef, unpasteurized milk, contaminated vegetables
Tx: self-limiting, cook food to 165 degrees
Escherichia coli gastroenteritis
S and sx: cramps
CA: salmonella enterica
E: survive for months, poultry, eggs often contaminated
Tx: recover without antibiotics, 165 degrees
Salmonella Gastroenteritis
S and sx: serious cases progress to colitis- colon inflammation
Severe cases are life-threatening
CA: C. Difficile(c. diff), endospores, resistant to antibiotics
P: Dysbosis due to antibiotic use
E: antibiotic therapy, HAI, endospores
Tx: stop antibiotics, fecal microbiota transplant
Clostridium Difficile infection
S and sx: abrupt vomiting and profuse watery diarrhea
E: childhood epidemics, traveler’s diarrhea, highly contagious
Tx: rotovirus vaccine, norovirus NO vaccine
Rotovirus/Norovirus
S and sx: Acute illness, jaundice, fever, fatigue, vomiting
CA: Hepatitis A virus (HAV)
E: contamination, raw shellfish
Tx: no antiviral treatment, PEP (2 weeks), vaccine

S and sx: chronic, acute form ranges from asymptomatic to severe, liver cancer
CA: Hepatitis B virus (HBV), resistant
E:Transmitted in body fluids
Tx: No curative treatment, Vaccine (3 doses), education
Hepatitis B
S and sx: similar to A and B, chronic infections, related to cirrhosis
CA: Hepatitis C virus (HVC)
P: contaminated blood
Tx: Antivirals, No vaccine
