Context:

A

inspired by the Cowan Bridge School in Lancashire that Charlotte attended for a brief period when she was a girl. Four of the Bronte sisters went to that school: Maria, Elizabeth, Charlotte, and Emily.
Maria and Elizabeth both died from the awful living conditions.
Charlotte tried to avenge their death and expose the realities of boarding schools of that time.
Christian population was considerably bigger then it is now- used in a way which allowed them to overly control the youth.
Gender-voicelessness of girls/Jane versus Brocklehurst having all the speech.
Class- not treated like higher class- degraded/ punished/ due to having no status.
