25) Hysteria
(from the Greek word meaning uterus) a mysterious “disease of the uterus” often diagnosed in women until early in the 20th century, marked by fainting or fits and a variety of symptoms such as loss of voice or partial paralysis, with no apparent physical cause.
26) Gender-specific medicine
a new branch of medicine in which the focus is on how diseases and treatment may progress differently for women and men.
27) Depression
a mental illness signaled by feelings of extreme sadness and hopelessness and by a loss of interest in most activities
Posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
a disorder caused by a traumatic event that is characterized by anxiety, depression, flashbacks, nightmares, and somatic symptoms.
28) Anorexia nervosa
a mental disorder that involves self-starvation in an effort to maintain an unrealistically low body weight, characterized by an intense fear of becoming obese and by a disturbed body image, a tendency to “feel fat” even when severely underweight.
29) Bulimia nervosa
a mental disorder characterized by an obsession with food and with body weight, involving a pattern of “binge” overeating followed by self-induced “purging” through a variety of means, including dieting, vomiting, or laxatives.
30) Specific phobias
a persistent, irrational fear of and desire to avoid specific objects, activities, or situations.
31) Agoraphobia
a persistent, irrational fear of being in public places from which escape might be difficult or in which help might be unavailable in case of sudden incapacitation.
32) Antisocial personality disorder
a mental disorder characterized by a lack of ethical or moral sensitivity and the absence of guilt or anxiety about hurting others.
33) Late luteal phase dysphoric disorder
an earlier label for premenstrual dysphoric disorder, a formal diagnosis included in an appendix of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association that lists a set of psychological symptoms that may occur during the week prior to menstruation.
34) Stressors
– the external events or conditions that are appraised as threatening by an individual and thus are the source of upset, worry, discomfort and general distress
