Chronic Asthma Symptoms

A

Shortness of breath- this often occurs particularly with physical activity or at night

Wheezing - High pitched whilstling sound when breathing, especially during exhalation

Coughing: A persistent cough, often worse at night or early in the morning that doesn’t seem to go away

Chest tightness - a feeling of pressure or constriction in the chest

Reasons for uncontrolled Asthma

A
  • lack of adherence- not using inhaler why?
  • Poor inhaler technique -DPI or PMDI - spacer?
  • Inappropriate medication or dose: as they on the right management plan?
  • Are they taking their right dose
  • Over using reliever techniques? And not using Maintenance inhaler enough?
  • Smoking - referral to smoking cessation service

- Asthma review by respiratory nurse
- Should have a diagnosis

Decreasing treatment

A

Decrease maintenance therapy usually the ICS
