Nebulisers
A
-severe acute asthma ( nebulisers usually driving by oxygen in hospitals)
- started by specialists
- converts solution of a drug into a spray
- higher dose compared to inhaler

Common nebulisers
A
Saline Steri Neb = is used to dilute nebuliser solution, put in machine
Then its mixed with one of the following,
Salbutamol, Ipratropium, Budesonide

Maintenance of the machines
A
- pump serviced and filters replaced, every 6-12 months - usage dependant
- Bowl,tubing and mask/mouthpiece replaced every 3 months
- this is all done to prevent infection

A
Nebulisers should be used with extreme caution in children and only under the care of a resp paediatrician. Can mask the deterioration in underlying disease and delay in seeking attention
