In check dial
Helps to assess a patients inspiratory flow rate, to determine the most suitable inhaler. Dial starts at red and slowly goes up into the right section
Incheck dial - checks their what? Whether they’re using what correctly?
Check their inflow and whether they’re using the inhaler correctly
Peak flow - helps with the diagnosis of what?
Tests how quickly you can breathe out of your lungs
Helps diagnose asthma and test severity of exacerbations - indicating whether asthma is getting better or worse before you notice symptoms
Blow into peak flow meters - keep a what?
And get PEF - keep a diary to compare readings
What’s the green zone
8-100% of personal best = well controlled asthma
Yellow zone
50-80 - personal best - caution asthma is worsening
Red zone
<50% of personal best - medical alert = severe asthma exacerbations
Factors affecting peak flow
Age - lower in children and declines with old ages
Gender- men have a higher reading than women
Height - taller individuals often have higher peak flow
Health - asthma and cold lower the readings
