Climate Change Flashcards
(6 cards)
Climate change natural factors?
Volcanic activity- eruptions release ash and gasses like sulphur dioxide, which can cool the earth by blocking sunlight
Orbital changes - variations in the earths orbit affect how much solar radiation we receive
Climate change human factors?
Use of fossil fuels - burning coal, oil and gas releases C02
Agriculture - produces methane form livestock
Deforestation - reduces the number of trees that absorb C02
What effects does climate change have on people?
More deaths from heatwaves and extreme weather.
Rising sea levels threaten low lying areas
What effect does climate change have on the environment?
Loss of biodiversity as habitats are destroyed
Melting glaciers and polar ice reduce habitat for polar bears
Mitigation strategies?
Renewable energy sources like solar, wind, hydro and geothermal
Afforestation- planting more trees to absorb C02
Adaptation strategies climate change?
Reducing risk from sea levels rising - building sea walls, flood barriers
Managing water supply : using water more efficiently and storing more for dry periods
