Q

Manage rainforest sustainably - selective logging

A

Only some trees, less trees remain. This is less damaging to the forest than clearing a whole area. If only a few a trees are taken from an area the overall structure is kept. This allows the forest to regenerate.

Q

Managing rainforest sustainably- conservation

A

Many counties have set up national parks and nature preserves within rainforests in these areas damaging activities e.g. logging, are restricted however lack of funds can make it difficult to police restrictions

As a result, some counties have set up funds which overseas governments and businesses can invest in. The counties get money in exchange for rainforest conservation

Q

Managing rainforest sustainably- reducing debt

A

Tropical rainforests are mainly found in LICs which borrow money from HICs this money must be paid back with interest so poorer counties log, farm and mine the rainforests me to pay back the debt.

Reducing debt means countries don’t have to do this and rainforests can be conserved
