Communication & Negotiation Flashcards
(5 cards)
What forms of communication am I aware of?
Verbal.
Non-verbal (body language, eye contact, gestures).
Written, such as emails.
What are the barriers to effective communication?
Unclear delivery of information.
Confusing and overly-technical lingo.
Lack of enthusiasm.
Emotionally charged or aggressive communication.
How would I go about negotiating in a challenging circumstance.
I would ensure my emotions were under control and that my communication was clear.
I would set out my points in a easy to understand and concise manner.
I would ensure I was viewing the situation with the necessary degrees of empathy and ask for a second opinion from a colleague if required.
What makes a successful negotiation?
Preparation and organisation.
Each party should have the opportunity to present their points.
Confirmation of next steps should be communicated.
On the Vista Tower project, how did I go about negotiating the additional works with the contractor?
To start, I reviewed their proposals for the new work and conducted an assessment on these.
I added my comments to their proposals and scheduled in a meeting to go over these points.
I then ensured any points in the meeting were recorded and followed these up via email.
