Montrachet general info?
8ha split between Puligny and Chassagne "Montrachet" means "bald hill," The first mention of Montrachet came in the 13th Century, when the site was donated to the local Benedictine abbey As with much of the land owned either by the church or landed gentry, the vineyard was confiscated and sold off during the French Revolution, although the family of the Marquis de Laguiche was able to buy back some of its pre-revolutionary holdings and remains one of the larger landowners in the vineyard (Joseph Drouhin currently produces the wines from the Laguiche plots) Montrachet was made an appellation in 1937, around the same time as most of Burgundy's other top grand cru vineyards 250-270 metres soils are thinnish and lie on hard limestone traversed by a band of reddish marl Montrachet wines are often described as the pinnacle of white wine, balancing opulence with elegance. The wines exhibit intense minerality, richness, and a silky texture with flavors of citrus, stone fruits, hazelnuts, and honey, often with a floral bouquet Montrachet wines can age for decades, developing deeper layers of complexity, including nutty and truffle-like characteristics.
70
Chevalier-Montrachet general info?
7.3ha Lies up the slope of Montrachet 265-290 metres The climat, located on the southeast-facing mid-slope of the hill, is the highest grand cru site in Puligny-Montrachet, rising to 300m (985ft) above sea level. The prestigious Montrachet vineyard is on the slope directly below, with Bâtard-Montrachet below that next to En Cailleret The limestone-based soil is much thinner, stonier and poorer than that in Montrachet below, and has a higher proportion of marl cooler terroir grand cru status in 1937 Leaner, more refined, with heightened minerality, acidity and delicacy La Demoiselles from Jadot and Latour on the northern sector and La Cabotte from Bouchard are noteworthy

Batard-Montrachet general info?
11ha biggest on the lowest part of the grand cru slope 240-250 metres split between Chassagne (about 5ha) and Puligny soil is deeper here than in the other grand crus. Bâtard-Montrachet's pebbly limestone soils have a higher proportion of clay, and so drainage is not quite so effective as higher on the hill east facing exposure to the morning sun Richer and fuller-bodied, with a pronounced weight and luscious texture.

3ha means the Welcome Bastard Montrachet 240-250 metres Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet occupies the northeastern corner of the wider Bâtard site, nearest to the village of Puligny-Montrachet itself Puligny's Les Pucelles premier cru lies level with Bienvenues to the north Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet's position at the bottom of the slope means that the soil here is slightly richer and deeper than in the plots above. While it is still composed of the same limestone and marl as the most prestigious vines on the slopes above, there is a higher proportion of clay is regularly associated with, and compared to, the larger Bâtard-Montrachet site making rich, plump white wines that, while not quite as prestigious as the wines from the nearby Montrachet vineyard
