Minimising impacts
Hire temporary workers
- help to speed up other tasks on critical path, allowing delayed activity to start sooner
Move resources from activities with float time
Find alternatives that are quicker
- fast suppliers
Produce or complete part of the activity
- examples; receive some supplies, install some machines, create some samples
Reduce the time take or bring forward a different, unrelated activity on the critical path
- needs to not be dependent for other activity to be completed
- example, train staff earlier or for less time
Useful
See if they can meet the deadline
Can look at float time to decide how they can share resources to ensure the critical path is on time
Can identify critical path and make a good use of resources (example = staff only used when needed meaning no wasted wages)
Make better management of financial reserves by identifying when cash is needed you can stagger outlows
Marketing
Not useful
If a lack of experience, there’s potential for an inaccurate estimate
If other directors disagree with duration, activities won’t be completed on time leading to a loss of 1st mover advantage
