Day 82 - Suffixes Flashcards
German suffixes don’t have such abstract core meanings as the prefixes, and can usually translate one to one into English. It’s actually a good idea to memorize these, because they will show up a lot.
There is also one idiomatic expression using the suffix -los: Was ist los? (What’s the matter?).

-bar … -able
-chen / -lein … small / young
-haft … Emphasizes root word.
-heim … home
-heit / -keit …. -ness
-ig … -y / in a certain way
-isch … -ish
-ismus … -ism
-lich … -ly
-los … -less, without
-reich / -voll … plenty
-sam … -some
-schaft … -ship
-ung … Changes verbs into nouns.
-wert / -würdig … worth doing
