What is it?
A
it is characterised by having pouches (diverticula) in the colon - these are outpouchings of the mucosa and submucosa

Aetiology?
A
- congenital
- lack of fibre in diet

Pathology?
A
pressure on the mucosa causes herniation through weak points muscular layer

Investigations?
A
CT/ barium enema

Management?
A
- surigcal –> resection if recurrent diverticulitis
- other management –> increase fibre in diet
