when was the dutch revolt

what led to the revolt?
since the 1550s, there was growing unhappiness and unrest in the Netherlands ab spanish interference in dutch affairs
although the netherlands belonged to the spanish, they were used to governing themselves.
when phillip decided to reorganise dutch gov and church, he also indtrocued the spansih inquisition to nether.
this brought both catholics and protestants together saagsondt spain, leading to the durch revolt, which broke out for the first time in 1566.
what did phillip do in retaltiatio ot ehr evolt
in 1567, he sent the Duke of Alba with an army of 10,000 men to the N to put fown the revolt.
as a consequence, by 1568, it had been defeated.

- establish a council of trouble (nicknamed the council of blood)
- this enforced both catholicism and obedience to the spansih crown
- it was made up fo loyal dutch nobles and spansih officials
- ignored local law and legal processes, condemining thousands to death ( mainly protestantss)
- this led to thousands of dutch protestants fleeing into exile, many to england.
