What is Anorexia Nervosa?
Failure to maintain normal body weight, fear of and preoccupation with weight gain and body image disturbance
What are common symptoms in Anorexia Nervosa?
Amenorrhea, Hypotension, Bradycardia, Lanugo hair, edema
What is the #1 cause of death in anorexia nervosa?
Arrhytmias: low K can alter Rhythms
How do you treat anorexia nervosa?
Possible hospitalization
Psychotherapy
Behavioral therapy
SSRI to help weight gain
What is Bulimia Nervosa characterized by?
Frequent binge eating, lack of control of overeating episodes and compensatory behavior to prevent weight gain
What is the treatment for Bulimia Nervosa?
Psychotherapy and SSRIs
What is binge eating disorder?
Recurrent episodes of Binge eating 3 or more times per week for >3 months
What are binge eating episodes associated with?
eating faster than usual, eating until feeling uncomfortably full, eating large amounts of food in the absence of hunger, eating alone, and feeling disgusted with oneself after an eating episode
What are the treatment options for Binge eating Disorder?
Topiramate
Lisdexamfetamine
Psychotherapy: CBT, Interpersonal psychotherapy and Dialectic behavior therapy
