What is erectile disorder?
Persistent or recurrent inability to attain or maintain an errection until completion of a sexual act
How do you treat erectile disorder?
r/o medical causes or medication, psychotherapy, couples sexual therapy, PDE5 medications
What is erectile disorder often associated with?
Psychological etiology
50% more likely in smokers
What is premature ejaculation?
Ejaculation before penetration of just after penetration usually doe to anxiety
How do you treat premature ejaculation?
Psychotherapy, behavioraltechniques (stop and go, squeeze), SSRI drugs
What is Genitopelvic Pain syndrome (Dyspareunia)?
Pain associated with sexual intercourse, not diagnosed if due to medical condition
How do you treat Genitopelvic Pain syndrome (Dyspareunia)?
Psychotherapy
What is Penetration Disorder (vaginismus)?
Involuntary constriction of the outer third of the vagina preventing penile insertion
How do you treat Penetration Disorder (Vaginismus)?
Psychotherapy, Dilator Therapy
What are Paraphilic Disorders?
Group of disorders: recurrent, sexually arousing and seen more in men
What do paraphilic disorders usually focus on?
Humiliation, nonconsenting partners or use of nonliving objectets
What is needed to diagnose a Paraphilic Disorder?
> 6 months and both cause distress and adversely affect level of functioning
What is exhibitionism?
Recurrent urge to expose oneself to strangers
What is Fetishism?
Recurrent use of nonliving objects to achieve sexual pleasure
What is Pedophilia?
Recurrent urges or arousal toward prepubescent children
What is Masochism?
Recurrent urge or behavior involving the act of humiliation
What is Sadism?
Recurrent urge or behavior involving the acts in which physical or psychological suffering of a victim is exciting
What is Transvestic Fetishism?
Recurrent Urge or behavior involving cross dressing for sexual gratification: usually found in heterosexual males
What is Frotteruism?
Rubbing ones pelvis or erect penis against a nonconsenting person for sexual gratification
How do you treat Paraphilic Disorders?
Psychotherapy
Behavioral modification: aversive conditioning
Antiandrogens or SSRI to reduce sexual drive
What is Gender Dysphoria?
Persistent discomfort and sense of inappropriateness regarding the patient’s assigned sex
What is the treatment for Gender Dysphoria?
Psychotherapy or steps to support the individual’s gender: HRT, Gender expression and role or surgery
