Enzymes and Digestion Flashcards
(11 cards)
Where is amylase made?
Salivary glands,
Pancreas,
Small intestine
What converts starch into sugars?
Amylase
What converts proteins into amino acids?
Protease
Where is protease produced?
Stomach (pepsin),
Pancreas,
Small intestine
What converts lipids into glycerol and fatty acids?
Lipase
Where is lipase produced?
Pancreas, small intestine
Where is bile produced?
Liver
Where is bile stored before it’s released into the small intestine?
Gall bladder
What acid in the stomach makes the ph too acidic for enzymes in the small intestine?
Hydrochloric acid
What neutralises the acid and makes conditions alkaline?
Bile
Why does the stomach produce Hydrochloric acid?
To kill bacteria, to give the right ph for the protease enzyme to work (ph2 acidic)
