What is differentiation?
It is the process by which a cell changes to become specialised for its job. In most animal cells the ability to differentiate is lost at an early stage but lots of plant cells don’t ever lose ability.
Embryonic stem cells can turn into what type of cell?
Any!
What happens if A cell is undifferentiated?
The cells can develop different types of cells depending on what the instructions they have been given these are called stem cells.
How can stem cells may be able to cure many diseases?
The embryonic stem cell could be used to replace faulty cells in sick people
Why are some people against stem cell research?
Some people feel the human embryo shouldn’t be used in experiments because each one is the potential to be human life, in some countries stem cell research is banned but it is allowed in the UK as long as it follows strict guidelines
