What is right and wrong?
Ethics are separate from the law, but they often overlap.
What is a Code Of Practice?
Code of Practice sets the standard on the best way for government organisations to design, build and buy technology.
What is the BCS?
As a charity with a royal charter, our agenda is to lead the IT industry through its ethical challenges, to support the people who work in the industry, and to make IT good for society.
What is Ethics?
Are about what is right and wrong.
What is whistle blowing?
When an employee reports unethical or illegal action.
What is an example of Whistle blowing?
E.g. a technician decides to become a whistle blower because customer information is being misused – managers are not securing data despite previous complaints, contrary to the Data Protection Act.
What is Discrimination within a workplace?
Discrimination happens when an employer treats one employee less favourably than others
What is Discrimination within IT?
When you are mistreated because of a
protected characteristic e.g.
Sexuality
Religion
Disability Race
Gender
What Act Discrimination Under?
Discrimination is illegal according to the Equality Act (2010).
What is bias?
Bias is an unfair preference given to something.
What is Bias in ethics?
Moral beliefs, attitudes, perspectives, or behavioural tendencies that unwittingly tend to influence our moral judgment in specific directions.
E.g. Employers might try to avoid bias in hiring by screening applicants blind
