1
Q

fibre

A

-Use pulses of light.
-usually made of thin and flexible glass of plastic
-Can transfer more data at a time (higher bandwidth).
-but are more expensive and brittle.

Q

Copper

A

-Data is transmitted through electrical signals
-Used for short wired connections
-Cables without insulation can interfere with each other {causing errors}

Q

wired

A

Benefits:
Often more stable and reliable
Harder to intercept data
Can have a longer range than wireless.
Limitations:
Less flexible- harder to add new devices of change arrangement.
Wires take up space and can be a hazard. {fire}.

Q

Wireless

A

Using waves
Most common:
-WIFI and Bluetooth both use radio waves.
-WIFI is used to create local networks.
-Bluetooth is used for short range network- these can be ad hoc. {air pods}
Less common:
-microwave network have high bandwidth but are affected by weather.
-Infrared uses light not visible to the human eye. used for short range.
-Laser is like fibre but without a wire. has high band width but affected by weather.
These all require line-of-sight.

Q

wireless

A

Satellite communication relays messages between 2 points on earth.
GSM (Global system for Mobile Communication)
and successors 3G, 4G & 5G using cellular networks to allow mobile phones to connect to the internet.
