1
Q
evidence for evolution
A
fossils
selective breeding
nucleotide and amino acid sequences
comparative anatomy of animals
2
Q
Charles Darwin’s theory of natural selection
A
- tendency for overproduction leads to competition, leads to regulation of population size
- individuals in population show variation
- favorable variations help adapt better, more likely to survive & reproduce
- the fittest pass on their genes while the non-fit don’t = natural selection
- large proportion will have those variations eventually
- natural selection leads to populations better adapted to their environments
3
Q
what was Lamarckism
A
was thought that changes in environment led to the usage of certain organs and they would become larger while those disused would shrink over an organism’s lifetime –> these changes that were acquired would be passed on
4
Q
evolution
A
a change in the inherited characteristics of a population
