How does exercise play a key role in prevention of pulmonary embolisms and DVT?

A

Nitric oxide is produced during exercise. NO dilates blood vessels, makes platelets less sticky, reduces plaque formation, reduces smooth muscle growth in artery walls and reduces ROS release.

A

Exercise reduces pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-alpha and IL-6)

A

Heat shock proteins generated when you body heats up to protect organs has also been shown to decrease chances of having cancer.

Why would someone take metformin for diabetes?

A

They are unable to exercise. It does the same thing as exercise does as far as releasing AMP to make insulin receptors in muscle more sensitive to insulin.

A

It upregulates schwann cells and oligodendrocytes. These help preserve myelin in nerves and may thus play a role in preserving synapses.
