factors that influence attitude Flashcards
(15 cards)
attitude formation is influenced by
classical conditioning, operant conditioning, social/observational learning, repeated exposure.
classical conditioning
occurs through repeated association of two different stimuli , the learner is passive, and the response is reflexive
neutral stimulus
a stimuli that has no particular response
unconditioned stimulus and response
a stimuli that elicits an unlearnt response (involuntary) the response is a unconditioned response
what happens during classical conditining
The neutral stimulus is paired with the uncoditioned stimulus to proudce a unconditioned response, repeated pairings strengthes the association
after classical conditioning
the neutral stimulus becomes the conditioned stimulus and elicits a conditioned response
conditioned response
a reaction to the conditioned stimulus without the presense of the uncodointioned stimulus.
operant conditioning
the learner is active a type of learning where the likelihood of learning is determined by its consequences
what happens with negative punishment and positive
negative punishment is when a valued stimulus is removed
positive punishment when an unpleasant stimulus is added
all to reduce the likelihood of a response occuring again
positive reinforcement and negative reinforcement
positive reinforcment strenghtens a response by by adding a positive consequence
negative reinforcment stregnthens a response with the removal of a unpleasant stimulus
social learning
modifying or adjusting our attitudes by observing particularyly people we admire or respect. The learner active
observational learning has 5 stepps
A really red mango red
attention, retention, reproduction, motivation, reinforcement
repeated exposure
an attitidue can be formed from encountering or being shown an attitude or object multiple times
cognitive intervention
strategies that focus on changing attitudes
