What is a characterisation system for fever + vomiting in neonates?
Bilious vs non-bilious
What does bilious vomit imply? What are some causes?
- Malrotation and volvulus
- Duodenal atresia
- Necrotising enterocolitis
- Inguinal hernia
If there is a change from non-bilious to bilious then think - intussusception
What are some causes of non-bilious vomiting?
- Gastroenteritis, UTI, meningitis,
- Pyloric stenosis
- Metabolic disease
- Raised ICP
