  1. Atkins or Zone, less than 100g CHO or less than 30% of food is CHO
  2. Promotes Fat oxidation when CHO is present, Rapid weight loss, better adherence, decrease CHO dependancy and increase keytone utility
  3. Greater weight loss than low fat, decrease in BP, TG, HDL
  4. Low energy, bad breath, poor ability to train due to low energy, less LDL-cholesterol improvement

High Protein

  2. High satiety, energy demanding to store excess, tastes good, preserves FFM
  3. Weight loss in line with Low Carb, Helpful to prevent regain of weight after weight loss
  4. Poor quality of food? Low energy due to Low CHO and poor nutirtion

VLCD

  2. RAPID weight loss
  3. Most subjects regain 40-50% of lost weight in 1 -2 years without support
  4. Costly, requires medical supervision, increases other negative health symptoms ie gall stones, hair loss, fatigue, cramps
