GALATIANS 1

Question 1

Παῦλος ἀπόστολος οὐκ ἀπ᾽ ἀνθρώπων

Answer 1

Paul, an emissary, (sent) neither from men

Question 2

οὐδὲ δι᾽ ἀνθρώπου ἀλλὰ διὰ Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ

nor though a man but through Jesus Christ

Question 3

καὶ θεοῦ πατρὸς τοῦ ἐγείραντος αὐτὸν ἐκ νεκρῶν,

and God the Father who raised Him from the dead

Question 4

καὶ οἱ σὺν ἐμοὶ πάντες ἀδελφοὶ ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις τῆς Γαλατίας,

and all the brothers who are with me, to the assemblies of Galatia

Question 5

χάρις ὑμῖν καὶ εἰρήνη ἀπὸ θεοῦ πατρὸς ἡμῶν καὶ κυρίου Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ

grace to you and peace from God our Father and Lord Jesus Christ

Question 6

τοῦ δόντος ἑαυτὸν ὑπὲρ τῶν ἁμαρτιῶν ἡμῶν,

who gave himself for our sins

Question 7

ὅπως ἐξέληται ἡμᾶς ἐκ τοῦ αἰῶνος τοῦ ἐνεστῶτος πονηροῦ

(in order) to deliver us from the present evil age

Question 8

κατὰ τὸ θέλημα τοῦ θεοῦ καὶ πατρὸς ἡμῶν,

according to the will of our God and Father

Question 9

ᾧ ἡ δόξα εἰς τοὺς αἰῶνας τῶν αἰώνων, ἀμήν.

to Whom be glory for ever and ever, amen.

Question 10

Θαυμάζω ὅτι οὕτως ταχέως μετατίθεσθε ἀπὸ τοῦ καλέσαντος ὑμᾶς

Answer 10

I am amazed that you are so quickly turning away from the one who called you

Question 11

ἐν χάριτι [Χριστοῦ] εἰς ἕτερον εὐαγγέλιον,

Answer 11

in the grace of Christ into another gospel/good news

Question 12

ὃ οὐκ ἔστιν ἄλλο,

Answer 12

not that there is another

Question 13

εἰ μή τινές εἰσιν οἱ ταράσσοντες ὑμᾶς

Answer 13

except that there are some who are troubling you

Question 14

καὶ θέλοντες μεταστρέψαι τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τοῦ Χριστοῦ

Answer 14

and want/wish to distort the good news of Christ

Question 15

ἀλλὰ καὶ ἐὰν ἡμεῖς ἢ ἄγγελος ἐξ οὐρανοῦ

Answer 15

But even if we or an angel from Heaven

Question 16

εὐαγγελίζηται [ὑμῖν] παρ᾽ ὃ εὐηγγελισάμεθα ὑμῖν,

(should) proclaim to you contrary to that which we proclaimed to you

Question 17

ἀνάθεμα ἔστω

Answer 17

let him be accursed.

Question 18

ὡς προειρήκαμεν καὶ ἄρτι πάλιν λέγω·

Answer 18

As we have said before, and now I say again:

Question 19

εἴ τις ὑμᾶς εὐαγγελίζεται παρ᾽ ὃ παρελάβετε,

Answer 19

if anyone preach good news (to) you besides that which you have received

Question 20

ἀνάθεμα ἔστω.

Answer 20

let him be accursed.

Question 21

Ἄρτι γὰρ ἀνθρώπους πείθω ἢ τὸν θεόν;

Answer 21

For am I now am I seeking to win (over) men or God?

Question 22

ἢ ζητῶ ἀνθρώποις ἀρέσκειν;

Answer 22

Or do I seek to please men?

Question 23

εἰ ἔτι ἀνθρώποις ἤρεσκον,

Answer 23

And yet if I were pleasing men

Question 24

Χριστοῦ δοῦλος οὐκ ἂν ἤμην

Answer 24

I would not be a servant of Christ.

Question 25

Γνωρίζω γὰρ ὑμῖν, ἀδελφοί,

Answer 25

For I make known to you, brothers,

Question 26

τὸ εὐαγγέλιον τὸ εὐαγγελισθὲν ὑπ᾽ ἐμοῦ

Answer 26

the good news that was proclaimed by me

Question 27

ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν κατὰ ἄνθρωπον·

Answer 27

is not according to a man/human custom

Question 28

οὐδὲ γὰρ ἐγὼ παρὰ ἀνθρώπου παρέλαβον αὐτὸ

Answer 28

for I neither received it from a man

Question 29

οὔτε ἐδιδάχθην

Answer 29

nor was it taught (to me)

Question 30

ἀλλὰ δι᾽ ἀποκαλύψεως Ἰησοῦ Χριστοῦ.

Answer 30

but (I received it) through a revelation of Jesus Christ

Question 31

Ἠκούσατε γὰρ τὴν ἐμὴν ἀναστροφήν ποτε ἐν τῷ Ἰουδαϊσμῷ

Answer 31

For you have heard of my conduct since in Judaism

Question 32

ὅτι καθ᾽ ὑπερβολὴν ἐδίωκον τὴν ἐκκλησίαν τοῦ θεοῦ

Answer 32

(and) that I was completely harassing the assembly of God

Question 33

καὶ ἐπόρθουν αὐτήν

Answer 33

and was destroying it

Question 34

καὶ προέκοπτον ἐν τῷ Ἰουδαϊσμῷ

Answer 34

and I was advancing in Judaism

Question 35

ὑπὲρ πολλοὺς συνηλικιώτας ἐν τῷ γένει μου

Answer 35

beyond many contemporaries among my people

Question 36

περισσοτέρως ζηλωτὴς ὑπάρχων

Answer 36

being far more zealous

Question 37

τῶν πατρικῶν μου παραδόσεων

Answer 37

for the traditions of my ancestors

Question 38

Ὅτε...ὁ θεὸς] ὁ ἀφορίσας με

Answer 38

When God, the one who (had) set me apart

Question 39

ἐκ κοιλίας μητρός μου

Answer 39

in my mother's womb/from birth

Question 40

καὶ καλέσας διὰ τῆς χάριτος αὐτοῦ

Answer 40

and called through his grace

Question 41

εὐδόκησεν...ἀποκαλύψαι τὸν υἱὸν αὐτοῦ ἐν ἐμοί

Answer 41

was pleased to reveal his son in/to me

Question 42

ἵνα εὐαγγελίζωμαι αὐτὸν ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν,

Answer 42

so that I might proclaim him to the nations

Question 43

εὐθέως οὐ προσανεθέμην σαρκὶ καὶ αἵματι

Answer 43

I did not immediately confer with flesh and blood

Question 44

οὐδὲ ἀνῆλθον εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα

Answer 44

and nor did I go up to Jerusalem

Question 45

πρὸς τοὺς πρὸ ἐμοῦ ἀποστόλους,

Answer 45

to those who were emissaries before me

Question 46

ἀλλ᾽ ἀπῆλθον εἰς Ἀραβίαν καὶ πάλιν ὑπέστρεψα εἰς Δαμασκόν.

Answer 46

but I went away to Arabia and returned again to Damascus.

Question 47

Ἔπειτα μετὰ ἔτη τρία

Answer 47

Then after three years

Question 48

ἀνῆλθον εἰς Ἱεροσόλυμα ἱστορῆσαι Κηφᾶν

Answer 48

I went up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas

Question 49

καὶ ἐπέμεινα πρὸς αὐτὸν ἡμέρας δεκαπέντε,

And stayed with him for 15 days

Question 50

ἕτερον δὲ τῶν ἀποστόλων οὐκ εἶδον

Answer 50

I did not see any other emissaries

Question 51

εἰ μὴ Ἰάκωβον τὸν ἀδελφὸν τοῦ κυρίου

Answer 51

except for James the brother of Christ

Question 52

ἃ δὲ γράφω ὑμῖν,

Answer 52

the things which I write to you

Question 53

ἰδοὺ ἐνώπιον τοῦ θεοῦ ὅτι οὐ ψεύδομαι.

Answer 53

see before God that I do not lie.

Question 54

Ἔπειτα ἦλθον εἰς τὰ κλίματα τῆς Συρίας καὶ τῆς Κιλικίας·

Then I went into the regions of Syria and Silicia

Question 55

ἤμην δὲ ἀγνοούμενος τῷ προσώπῳ

Answer 55

and I was unknown by sight/unfamiliar

Question 56

ταῖς ἐκκλησίαις τῆς Ἰουδαίας ταῖς ἐν Χριστῷ.

Answer 56

to the assemblies of Judaea that are in Christ.

Question 57

μόνον δὲ ἀκούοντες ἦσαν ὅτι

Answer 57

They had only heard that

Question 58

ὁ διώκων ἡμᾶς ποτε

Answer 58

The one formerly harassing us

Question 59

νῦν εὐαγγελίζεται τὴν πίστιν ἥν ποτε ἐπόρθει,

Answer 59

is now proclaiming the faith which he was destroying before

Question 60

καὶ ἐδόξαζον ἐν ἐμοὶ τὸν θεόν.

Answer 60

and they praised /glorified God because of me.
