(5 cards)
What is leaching?
The removal of materials in the soil downwards as water moves vertically through the soil.
What is Runoff?
When there is more water than the land can absorb, the excess water flows across the ground to nearby streams or ponds.
What leads to biomass in the nutrient cycle?
Nutrients from the soil taken up by plants.
This leads to fallout when plants and animals die.
What leads to soil in the nutrient cycle?
Litter releases nutrients into the soil as it decomposes.
Some of this is lost by leaching, and the rest is taken up by plants.
