Glycolysis Flashcards
(4 cards)
1
Q
Investment phase
A
- Hexokinase rearranges glucose to G6P
- Glucose 6-phosphate is rearranged to form isomer fructose 6-phosphate. Input of ATP needed
- Using ATP and another kinase, a second phosphate is added
- Phosphofructokinase splits fructose-1,6-bisphosphate in half, giving 2x 3C molecules with a phosphate attached at one end.
2
Q
Energy Pay off phase
A
- 3C molecule is phosphorylated (input of 2 NAD+) to form 2x3 C molecules with phosphate on both ends and 2 NADH+ H+
- Product is dephosphorylated where P is used to convert 2x ADP to 2x ATP and 3C molecules with one phosphate on the end.
- 3C molecules dephosphorylated again to convert 2x ADP to 2x ATP and 2x pyruvate molecules.
3
Q
Total yield
A
2x ATP, 2x Pyruvate, 2x NADH
4
Q
Glucose O2
A
All tissues, wholly cytosolic, anaerobic, fast, inefficient, ATP generation almost irrelevant
