Overview

A

Occurs in liver, signal for this is binding of glucagon to receptors on liver cell membrane. GLUT-2 tonically active. [glucose]blood = [glucose]cell.

Q

Steps

A
  1. Glucagon bonds to surface receptor on liver cell
  2. Adenylyl cyclase produces cAMP
  3. cAMP activates PKA which phosphorylates phosphorylase kinase
  4. Active phosphorylase kinase phosphorylates glycogen phosphorylase
  5. Phosphorylated and active phosphorylase will start to break glucose-1-phosphate off glycogen
  6. Glucose-1-phosphate converted to G6P
  7. G6Pase converts G6P to glucose
