What is Satire?
- It is oblique criticism in humorous form
- It often allows the writer to attract and persuade a larger audience (because of its humour/ it softens the blow of the critique in a certain way) and avoid direct resistance through such means as censorship
- It is laced with irony
What is the Travelogue from Swift?
It is often touched by the fantastic so the reader will approach it as allegory and not read it as reality.
What are the three (3) levels of Satire?
1) Surface enjoyment and entertainment
2) Universal satire
3) Contextual satire
