difference between hirsituism and virilization

hirsutism is excess male pattern hair growth while virilization is hirsutism + secondary male sex characteristics (clitoromegaly, deep voice, etc)

next step/labs to deetermine etiology of hirsutism

get free T, DHEAS, 17-OHP, cortisol

-elevated T = either adrenal or ovarian source

-elevated DHEAS = adrenal source

-elevated 17-OHP = CAH

-elevated cortisol = cushing syndrome
