What is obesity?
Having abnormal or excessive fat that may effect health
How is obesity measured
Mainly using body mass index
What are the body mass index averages?
*18.5-24.9 healthy
*25.29.9 overweight
*30-39 obese
*40+ severely obese
what are the 4 ways to treat obesity?
-drink lots of water
-increase activity
-get at least 8hrs of sleep
-eat healthy and control amount of calories consumed
what causes a stoke or heart attack?
-a thickening or hardening of the artery wall with Arturo
-which deprives part of body of blood
-if heart or brain is deprived it can lead to a stoke or heart attack
what causes cancer?
cells rapidly grow in a specific body part with cancerous cells that invade and destroy healthy tissues.
what is diabetes?
condition in which the amount of glucose in the blood is too high due to problems with insulin secretion, function or both.
what is type 1 diabetes?
-body produces little or no insulin leading to a rise in blood glucose
-caused by destruction of insulin producing cells in pancreas
-people must take insulin
what is type 2 diabetes?
-body produces insulin but not enough
-often linked to being overweight
what is hypoglycaemia?
low glucose levels possibly lead to confusion, dizziness, slurred speech or worst case coma
what is hyperglycaemia?
high glucose levels that could damage blood vessels and nerves
what are some symptoms of diabetes?
-unexplained weight loss
-slow healing of cuts
-weeing more often
-increased thirst
-extreme tiredness
-blurred vision
