HIV meds Flashcards
(6 cards)
Fusion/entry inhibitors
Prototype: Enfuvirtide (SubQ)
Purpose: Decreases and limits spread by blocking HIV from CD4 cell
CCR5 Antagonists
Prototype: Maraviroc (PO)
Purpose: Prevents HIV from entering lymphocytes, binding to CCR5 on cell membranes
NRTIs
Prototype: Zidovudine (PO, IV)
Purpose: Reduces HIV manifestations by inhibiting DNA synthesis thus viral replication
NNRTIs
Prototypes: Delavirdine and Efavirenz (PO)
Purpose: Act directly on reverse transcriptase to stop HIV replication
Protease Inhibitors
Prototype: Ritonavir (PO)
Purpose: Act against HIV-1 and 2 to alter and inactivate the virus by inhibiting enzymes needed for replication
Integrase Inhibitors (INSTIs)
Prototype: Raltegravir (PO)
Purpose: Interferes w/ enzyme integrase to prevent HIV replication within the cell
