Q

What is the first point you should make ?

A

The bill of rights was the most important
- ratification debates saw much criticism of the constitution as undermining the individuals rights.
- Madison made sure this was the first order of business with the House of reps adopting 17, senate 12 and states ratified 10
- 9 of the amendments gauranteed personal freedoms and liberty such as speech and the right to bear arms

This meant that they preserved the revolutionary ideas which had beeen argued by federalists to have been overshadowed by too much democracy and by anti federalists who feared the expansion of central government

Helped to convince Rhode Island 1790 and North Carolina 1789 to join the Union

The bill of rights secured the union in agreement of the revolutionary values
