What is the bill of rights ?
The first 10 amendments to the United States Constitution
They gaurantee essential rights and civil liberties including speech and the right to bear arms
Why wasn’t the bill of rights in the original constitution ?
- Originally argued to be included during the Philadelphia convention 1787 by George Mason
- many argued it was not needed as many states already had consitititons including a form of guaranteed rights
- However Beeman argued it was down to an anxiety that the new constitution may never be passed
- later became a central flaw of the ratification debates and a tool used by those who opposed it

James Madison
When was the bill of rights ratified ?
December 15 1791 and became part of the constitution
Where was the bill of rights written?
New York City were the federal government operated out f the Federal Hall
Why is the bill of rights improtant ?
First step in representing ‘we the people’ the first words of the constitution and without it anti federalists could argue the government was undermining personal liberty
Who did the bill of rights satisfy ?
Anti federalist who had been conceded that the constitution did not protect individual rights

1791

The Magna Carta
