Overall… pos in proving H’s mil power but super expensive + held little importance in the grand scheme of for pol. Just wanted to prove he was capable

1517 P of Cambrai… eng = isolated ‘laughing stock of Europe’
1518 T of London… Wol = arbiter vv pos
c1 = k of sp + HRE upset balance of power not going to follow t of London
1520 field of cloth and gold… somewhat pos v expensive but showing pos negotiations w/ fr
Overall…. Attempts at positive relations however falling short… other powers in Europe are too great… lasting influence Eng had to regain their reputation

T of Madrid, embarrassing treaty for f1… doesn’t honour
Overall… another expensive period with no real success… brought about domestic challenges such as Reb from amicable grant

Sack of Rome 1527… c5 takes pope as prisoner, issue as H wants divorce 1529 T of Barcelona… c5 wouldn’t grant as cath = cousin
1529 P of Cambrai… peace in Europe Eng isolated… again!! Fail
Overall… nothing positive T of Westminster = not followed, c5 has ultimate power in Europe… h8 cannot compete, fail

Conclusion

A

VV few positives, the only positives cost an obscene amount of money + were of little consequence, nothing major such as B of Spurs
H8 for pol = extremely expensive £1.4 million between 1511-1525
Ended up isolated, aft first isolation in 1518 for pol was more trepidations, never recovered…
Treaties were not followed and did not achieve his aims.
