Flashcards in Immune-Pharm Deck (26):
1

Cyclosporine

Binds cyclophilins, inhibits calcineurin, inhibiting IL-2 production; post organ transplant; nephrotoxicity (use mannitol), gout

2

Tacrolimus

Binds FK also resulting in inhibition of calcineurin and reduces IL-2 and other cytokine secretion; for organ transplants etc.; Nephrotoxicity, neuropathy, HTN, hyperglycemia

3

Sacrolimus

inhibits mTOR and reduces response to IL-2; Hyperlipidemia, thrombocytopenia, leukopenia

4

Daclizumab

Monclonal antibody against IL-2 recepotr

5

Drugs affecting IL-2

Cyclosporine, daclizumab, tacrolimus, sacrolimus

6

Azathioprine

antimetabolite precursor of 6-mercaptopurine, inhibits purine synthesis, toxic buildup in lymph cells; Kidney transplantation; xanthin oxidase metabolizes, don't give with allopurinol

7

Muromonab

Anti-CD3 on T cells (CD3 is responsible for signal transduction); Kidney transplant; cytokine release syndrome

8

Aldesleukin

IL-2 analog; for renal cell carcinoma, melanoma

9

Epo

anemias dealing with renal failure

10

Filgrastim

Granulocyte colony stimulating factor

11

Sargramostim

Granulocyte-macrophage colony stimulating factor

12

alpha-IFN

IFN-alpha; for Hepatitis B and C, Kaposi's sarcoma, leukemias, malignant

13

beta-IFN

For Multiple sclerosis

14

Gamma-IFN

Chronic granulomatos disease

15

Oprelvekin

IL-11 analog; for Thrombocytopenia

16

Thrombopoietin

For thrombocytopenia

17

Infliximab

monoclonal antibody against TNF-alpha; for Crohn's disease, RA, psoriatic arthritis

18

Etanercept

TNF-alpha target; for same as infliximab

19

Adalimumab

TNF-alpha; same as infliximab

20

Abciximab

GpbIIb/IIIa; prevent cardiac ischemia in unstable angina and in patients treated with precutaneous coronary intervention

21

Trastuzumab

erb-B2; HER-2 overexpressing breast cancer

22

Rituximab

CD20; Non-hodgkin's lymphoma

23

Omalizumab

IgE; additional line of treatment for severe asthma attacks

24

Mycophenolate Mofetil

Inhibits de novo synthesis of purines by inhibiting inosine monophosphate dehydrogenase; major teratogen

25

Prednisone

decreases prostaglandin production due to inhibition of PL-A2 and COX-2 downregulation

26

Thalidomide

sedative has teratogenic and immunosuppressant actions; useful for Hansen's disease, MM and cancer
