What are the consequences of breaching the Equality Act 2010?
An unlimited fine and reputational damage.
Is complying with mandatory standards all you need to do with regards to inclusion?
No, the rules of conduct (rule 4) state that you must encourage diversity and inclusion so a design should be taken to the highest level of diversity and inclusion where feasible.
Why is it important to have inclusive environments?
Because they create a sense of safety and belonging and reduce barriers to participation for people of all backgrounds and identities.
How would you consider Pregnancy and maternity when designing?
Include for items such as ramps which can be used for pushchairs, baby changing facilities and parent and child parking spaces.
How would you consider Religion or belief when designing?
Include for universal prayer rooms without specific symbology so it can be used by all people.
How would you consider Sex and Gender reassignment when designing?
Include for single sex and universal toilet facilities and allow for privacy features within changing rooms such as single changing cubicles and single shower cubicles.

The design council are a UK charity who promote inclusive design and the CPD discussed how inclusive design is the responsibility of all designers and where a single design solution cant accommodate all users then options or choices should be provided.
