Linezolid:
MC –> Thrombocytopenia.
–> It is a MAO inhibitor (avoid tyramine-containing foods).
Daptomycin:
CPK + LFT elevations.
Tigecycline:
Hepatotoxic + Causes nausea/diarrhea.
Colistin/Polymyxin:
Very toxic to the kidney and to the nerves.
–> Topical applications of the skin, eye, and ear.
Mefloquine:
Neuropsychiatric abnormalities: 1. Psychosis. 2. Hallucinations. 3. Seizures. Cardiac rhythm effects: 1. Bradycardia. 2. QT prolongation.
Doxycycline:
Photosensitivity rash.
Zanamivir:
May cause some wheezing, because it is administered by inhalation.
Ganciclovir:
Neutropenia.
Foscarnet:
Cidofovir:
Nephrotoxicity.
Valganciclovir:

Drotrecogin:
MC –> Bleeding (activated ProteinC analog).
Influenza vaccine:
Pneumococcal vaccine:
Extremely safe - Local muscle soreness is the only significant side effect.
–> NO CONTRAINDICATIONS.
Clindamycin:
Often leads to diarrhea from C.difficile.
Metronidazole:

Voriconazole:
Echinocandins (caspofungin, micafungin, anidulafungin):
Very few side effects. Minor histamine release: 1. Flushing. 2. Headache. 3. Urticaria. 4. Pruritus.

Isoniazid:
Hepatotoxicity –> Routine monitoring of liver function is NOT necessary, unless underlying liver disease or alcoholism is present.
Isoniazid, rifampin, pyrizinamide, ethambutol:
All can cause hepatotoxicity –> They are stopped at 2 times the upper limit of normal LFTs. Specific side effects:
INH –> Peripheral neuropathy.
Rifampin –> Red-orange discoloration of body fluids.
Pyrizinamide –> Hyperuricemia. Do NOT treat.
Ethambutol –> Optic neuritis + color vision abnormalities.
Acyclovir, Valacyclovir, Famciclovir:
MC is nephrotoxicity - Precipitation of medication in the kidney tubule.
Rarely –> Confusion, tremors, hallucincations.
TMP/SMX:
MC –> Rash.
Bone marrow suppression + Renal insufficiency can also occur.
