A chain of events, act one
Consequences inspector shows that while a single action may not have desire result the buildup of a series of bad events caused by the Berlin and Gerald can ultimately need a young girl to suicide in this way. Priestly encourages the audience and characters to think about the role they played in other peoples lives encourages them to think carefully about the dangerous effect their actions can have if they do not think of others and abused their power.
And you think young women ought to be protected against unpleasant things? Act two.
Hypocrisy this is a direct reference to Gerald’s treatment of either Smith inspector uses this opportunity to highlight the hypocritical nature of the upper class. They want to protect their own fragile innocent woman but it’s feels it is acceptable to lower cast for their own enjoyment.
Treatment of either while missed burning and try to protect Sheila from hearing” unpleasant things” neither of them feel the need to protect either from them. Gerald did protect her for awhile but he kept her as a mistress and then discarded her. This is something that upper-class men would not think to do to uppercase woman because they have too much respect for them.
The time will soon come if men will not learn that lesson then they will be taught in fire blood and anguish , act three
