Wines are grown in the Alta Vallesina, a high valley with a rare north-south orientation, protected from the maritime influence experienced by Castelli di Jesi. Average 350 m, but up to 720 m elevation. Steep inclines, limestone based soils = higher acid than di Jesi.
Matelica area is about 1/10th the size of Castelli di Jesi
