Q

Why does hydrolysis of ATP yield E? (5 reasons)

A

1) Phosphoanhydride bonds are relatively weak (weak bonds break, strong bonds form -> E released)
2) ATP has a higher negative charge density than ADP - lots of repulsion so more stable if you take off a phosphate
3) Orthophosphate is very stable -> multiple resonance states
4) Enthalpy decrease
5) Entropy increases
