L14 Flashcards
(15 cards)
Cellular processes involving DNA (4)
Transcription, Replication, Cell division, DNA Repair
Cellular processes involving RNA (3)
Transcription, Translation, Gene regulation
Cellular processes involving nucleotides
Energy transfer (ATP- ribonucleotide), DNA, RNA. Cofactors in enzymes (NAD+, FAD+), metabolism, signalling (ATP converted to AMP where rising levels of AMP signals low E in the cell)
Difference between ribose sugar and deoxyribose sugar?
Deoxy only has one –OH. Ribo has two –OH.
Purine - _ ring/s
2, AG
Pyridmidine - _ ring/s
1, CUT
Uracil replaces _ in RNA synthesis
Thymine
AT has _ H bonds?
2
GC has _ H bonds?
3
Phosphate is attached at the _ end
5’
Proteins more likely to bind in _____ groove as ___
Major, it is more spacious
3 forms of DNA
A - in the lab
B- usually in this form
Z- left handed helix
Difference between Thymine and Uracil?
Thymine has an additional methyl group
Why is the antiparallel structure of DNA important in DNA replication?
Because it replicates the leading strand one way and the lagging strand the other way. During DNA replication the leading strand is replicated continuously whereas the lagging strand is replicated in segments known as Okazaki fragments.
What is different about the tertiary structures of DNA and RNA?
DNA is double stranded and RNA is single stranded.
