Science and art of helping people change their lifestyles to move toward a state of optimal health
-supportive envs. Has the greatest impact in producing lasting change

Extent to which a person's expectations are affected by a medical condition or its tx

-good health is universally shared objective
-there is agreement on what being healthy means
-scientific consensus about which behaviors facilitate good health
-only challenge for health experts is to find ways of helping ppl maximize their health
